Becoming Anti-Ableist: Reimagining the Way We Work
75-minute Workshop
Day 3
Session Code: VS-12When: March 29, 2023
Level: Introductory
Track: Innovation & Transformation
Industry Designation: Accessibility
Presenter: Nora Genster, The Employment Transformation Collective
Description
It’s time for an anti-ableist employment transformation. Ableism, the pervasive discrimination and exclusion of disabled individuals in favor of “normal,” negatively impacts all facets of American employment. In truth, ableism prevents all employees, with and without disabilities, from doing their best work. That’s bad business. It is to employers’ advantage to adopt anti-ableist business strategy.
Hosted by The Employment Transformation Collective, this session empowers DEI, HR, and business leaders with the context, tools, and coaching necessary to begin “becoming anti-ableist.” Participants will learn about the Northwest Method, an approachable and scalable anti-ableist strategic decision-making model. Participants will explore and apply the Northwest Method to their own organizations. They will learn from Northwest Method case studies and, alongside colleagues from a variety of industries, imagine and plan for anti-ableist workplaces where all employees can do their best work.
Learning Outcomes:
• Gain a new and deeper understanding of the detrimental effect of ableism on the employment landscape and the way we all work
• Learn and apply the innovative tenants of the Northwest Method toward current business needs and pain points
• Become empowered to be leaders in the anti-ableism workplace and employment landscape transformation
